• Finance Manager

    ISID is seeking an experienced, professional Finance Manager to join our team. This position will play a key role in our organization’s operations, managing all of the day-to-day accounting, finance and human resource requirements. This will include creation of monthly management financial reports and working with the executive team to analyze department finances and develop budgets.

    Confidentiality, excellent organizational skills, and accuracy are important requirements for this position, as well as good customer relations and the ability to communicate clearly. The ideal candidate for this position will report directly to Executive Director and be a key member of the management team is a skilled multi-tasker who is reliable and is committed to consistently meeting deadlines.

    Key Objectives

    • To assume responsibility for all aspects of the finances of our organization
    • Support the Executive Director on human resource management

    Key Roles

    Finance

    • Budgeting
    • Accounting records keeping
    • Book keeping
    • Year-end and month-end accounting
    • Coordination of the annual audit with the independent audit firm
    • Drafting accounts according to regulations
    • Preparation and monitoring of cash flow budget
    • Financial reporting including monthly management accounts
    • Financial reporting for projects
    • Bank reconciliations
    • Tax reporting and filing including the IRS Form 990 preparation with the audit firm
    • Ensure that the organization is properly registered in all appropriate states for fundraising
    • Assisting in financial strategic planning
    • Administration of corporate governance
    • Regularly review and update accounting systems to ensure compliance with charitable status
    • Administer corporation insurance

    Project Administration

    • Manage and process payments to members of the team of international medical consultants that support the organization

    Human Resources

    • Administer the processing of the payroll and yearend IRS reporting requirements
    • Manage the reporting aspects of the 401k benefit plan and communicate plan information to individual team members
    • Ensure relevant insurance (workers comp, etc.) is kept up to date
    • Manage administration of personnel records including tracking holidays, vacations, sick days, etc.
    • Manage issues related to the operation of the office space, mail room, lunchroom and similar duties

    Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Executive Director

    Key Skills

    • At least five years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit environment
    • Experience in project/restricted income/fund accounting
    • Expertise with QuickBooks
    • Extensive knowledge of US GAAP and non-profit accounting
    • Advanced computer skills in MS Office and accounting software, particularly Excel
    • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, project management and communication skills
    • Additional experience in Audit and International accounting

    This is a part-time position with scheduled but flexible hours.  It is anticipated that the successful candidate will work about 20 hours per week.

  • Assistant Director of ProMED

    ISID is seeking an infectious disease and/or public health professional to work in our Brookline, Massachusetts office overseeing the day-to-day operation of ProMED. The Assistant Director will help direct a team of global health professionals working toward the early detection of emerging disease threats and oversee operations of the system.

    Responsibilities

    Working under the direction of the Executive Director of ISID and the Director of Emerging Disease Surveillance (and ProMED Editor), the Assistant Director will develop projects related to the vision of ISID. This include work that aids the international infectious disease community through increased disease surveillance and rapid global dissemination of information on outbreaks of infectious diseases and acute exposures to toxins that affect human health, including those in animals and in plants grown for food or animal feed. The Assistant Director will also work towards expanding and enhancing ProMED activities, write grant proposals to gain funding for these projects, participate in project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and produce progress reports for donors and stakeholders. The Assistant Director will support the Director of Emerging Disease Surveillance to develop ProMED editorial policies and will lead efforts to recruit, hire, and train ProMED’s international staff of moderators, associate editors, copy editors, and other staff. The Assistant Director will also assist with the planning and execution of ISID and ProMED congresses and meetings, and represent ISID and ProMED at international scientific conferences.

    Requirements:

    • Master’s degree or higher with a focus on infectious diseases, epidemiology, and/or public health
    • 5+ years of project management experience including grants, budgeting, and working with funders and stakeholders
    • Strong communications skills, both written and oral, with editorial and/or scientific writing experience for public health, medical, or science publications
    • Knowledge of social media use to promote science or medical related activities
    • Experience and demonstrable success in managing external funding
    • Ability to travel internationally and to work across cultural/linguistic barriers
    • Familiarity and experience with information technology systems

    Preferred additional qualifications:  

    • Prior education in science 
    • Web-based publishing experience 
    • Fundraising and event planning experience
    • International travel or experience living abroad
