New Invasive Tick Species in the US

A new tick species has arrived in the United States, the first new arrival in 50 years.  The Asian long-horned tick, Haemaphysalis longicornis, in its Asian habitat, carries diseases that can be fatal to livestock. Now, it has been found in seven East Coast states and has been identified in suburbs of New York City. Public health experts are concerned.

ProMED Moderator, Thomas Yuill, was one of the first to raise alarm about this new invasive tick species.
