Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance Poster Awards

The International Society for Infectious Diseases is pleased to announce the Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance Poster Awards. Sponsored by the Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance, the award recognizes high quality research presented in poster format.

PRIZE
Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance Poster Awards will be presented to the lead/presenting authors by Anita Shet, Poster Competition Coordinator,after the afternoon plenary talk each day. Each awardee will receive an award certificate and a 5,000INR stipend. A total of 15 prizes will be awarded. 

 

Decision Process:
All submitted abstracts will be reviewed and scored by at least two reviewers. The 20 highest scoring posters each day will be marked as poster finalists. Each poster finalist’s work will be judged by two poster judges on site based on the following criteria:

1. Originality and significance of the research
2. Methods employed
3. Content and layout of the poster
4. Presentation by lead author

 

Of the 20 poster finalists each day, five will be selected for the Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance Poster Awards.

Eligibility:
All individuals who present a poster at the 17th ICID are automatically eligible for the prize.


Sanofi Pasteur Awards for Communicable Disease Epidemiology were created to stimulate research on and emphasize the importance of applied epidemiology in the field of communicable diseases for the overall improvement of health.

Appropriate research may be based on laboratory investigation (e.g. serotypes of pneumococcus found in invasive disease in children or adults; seroprevalence of hepatitis A according to age), clinical investigation (e.g. risk factors for dengue fever), epidemiologic field work (e.g. morbidity and mortality from influenza, incidence of Lyme disease), health economics (e.g. medical and social costs of influenza, cost-benefit of vaccination program), or a combination of these topics.

Two awards sponsored by Sanofi Pasteur will be presented for the best abstracts accepted for presentation at the Congress. Each award consists of $2,500 (USD) in addition to reimbursement of travel, accommodation, and registration expenses for the 17thICID.

Eligibility and Application Procedure:
  1. There are no age or professional requirements for the awards. The sole requirement is the acceptance
    of an abstract indicating outstanding accomplishment in the field of communicable diseases.
  2. All abstracts addressing communicable diseases can be considered for the award.

The awards will be presented by a member of the ISID Executive Committee and a representative of the Medical Affairs Department of Sanofi Pasteur during the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. The recipients' names as well as brief descriptions of their work will be published in ISID News, an official publication of the International Society for Infectious Diseases.

 

Travel Grant Awards for Young Investigators from India: With generous support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, ISID will support approximately 100 young investigators from India to attend the 17thICID and present their work during one of the poster or oral sessions. Awards will be made based on individual eligibility and on abstract quality. The award includes reimbursement of approved travel expenses, registration for the congress and, where needed, airport transfers in Hyderabad and hotel accommodation.

Eligibility and Application Procedure:
  1. Applicants must be less than 40 years of age as of November 1, 2015.
  2. Applicants must be based in India.
  3. To apply, interested applicants must submit an abstract describing their own original research to the 17thICID as presenting author.

ISID New Investigator Award: The International Society for Infectious Diseases is delighted to continue the ISID New Investigator Award for the 17th ICID. The award includes round trip economy airfare to the 17th ICID, hotel accommodation and registration for the Congress. The award will be presented during the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, March 2, 2016.

Eligibility and Application Procedure:
  1. Applicants must be based in countries outside North America or Western Europe.
  2. Applicants must submit to the 17thICID and have accepted an abstract of original research on any aspect of infectious diseases not previously published or presented at an international meeting.
  3. Only applicants who have not previously had an abstract accepted for oral presentation at an international meeting are eligible. For purposes of this award, acceptance of abstracts at regional meetings outside North America or Western Europe does not affect eligibility.

Elsevier Foundation Travel Grants For Early Career Women Scientists from Low or Lower-Middle Income Countries to Present Research Findings at the 17th ICID in Hyderabad, India: With generous support from the Elsevier Foundation, ISID will support 10 early career women investigators from low or lower-middle income countries to attend the 17th ICID and present their work during one of the oral or poster sessions. The award includes up to $1,500 (USD) for the reimbursement of travel expenses. Awardees receive free registration for the congress

Eligibility and Application Procedure:
  1. Applicants must be early career women investigators at the Postdoctoral or Assistant Professor level or equivalent.
  2. Applicants must reside and conduct their research in a World Bank designated low or lower-middle income country.
  3. To apply, interested applicants must submit an abstract describing their own original research to the 17th ICID as presenting author.

ProMED Awards in Emerging Infectious Diseases:
ISID is pleased to announce the establishment of ProMED Awards recognizing the best abstracts submitted in the area of Emerging Infectious Diseases. Up to three awards will be made.

ProMED – a Program of ISID - is one of the largest publicly available emerging disease and outbreak alert systems in the world. ProMED publishes via the Internet reports of infectious disease outbreaks and toxic exposure incidents with commentaries from a worldwide staff of expert moderators on a real-time basis around the clock. ProMED-mail emphasizes transparency, is open to all sources, is free of political constraints, and is available to anyone free of charge. ProMED embraces the “One Health” model of emerging diseases, recognizing the commonality of human, animal and environmental health.

The ProMED Awards will be presented for the best abstracts in the area of emerging infectious diseases accepted for presentation at the Congress. Each award consists of $500 (USD) in addition to free registration for the 17th ICID.
