GIDEON A Computer Program for Disease Simulation and Informatics in Geographic Medicine

The background, functions, and use of GIDEON will be presented using computer projection.
Following a demonstration of each of the software modules, workshop attendees will be
encouraged to ‘challenge and consult’ GIDEON with problems, diagnosis, informatics,
bacterial identification, and therapy.
ProMED-mail Demonstration and Workshop

The purpose of this session is to introduce ProMED-mail, the global e-mail list-server
dedicated to disseminating accurate, up-to-date information on current emerging
infectious disease outbreaks world-wide. ProMED-mail communicates daily, via the Internet,
with more than 19,000 subscribers from 160 countries. ProMED-mail has proved essential in
timely global coverage of emerging disease outbreaks in humans, animals, and plants. It has
been instrumental in bringing together infectious disease specialists from around the world and
creating a forum for free and unrestrained communication. Attendees will learn more about the
mission of ProMED-mail, how to subscribe to ProMED-mail, how to post outbreak reports, and how
these reports are moderated and edited.
ProMED-mail is a program of the International Society for Infectious Diseases. A light lunch
will be provided.
